Photography Club

The Photography Club at McDaniel College Budapest, founded in 2023 by Alex Contereras and Dash Khatami, quickly became a vibrant community for photography enthusiasts on campus. Alex and Dash, both passionate about capturing the world through their lenses, envisioned the club as a space where students could come together to learn, explore, and share their love for photography.

Every weekend, the club members embark on photo walks around Budapest, exploring the city’s diverse landscapes and iconic landmarks. From the historic Buda Castle to the modern architecture of the city’s bustling streets, each outing presents a new opportunity for members to hone their skills and discover different aspects of photography—be it portrait, landscape, street photography, or experimental techniques.

One of the unique aspects of the club is its blend of traditional and modern photography techniques. Alex introduced students to the timeless art of analog photography, providing a collection of vintage cameras that allowed members to experience the process of shooting on film. This hands-on exposure to analog photography gave students a deeper appreciation for the roots of the craft, teaching them patience and the importance of each shot. Dash, on the other hand, brought the latest in digital technology, sharing his expertise with a state-of-the-art mirrorless camera. This provided members with the opportunity to explore the fast-paced, versatile world of digital photography, learning about the latest techniques in composition, lighting, and editing.

The club welcomes students of all skill levels, from beginners who are just starting to explore the art form, to seasoned photographers looking to refine their craft. Alex and Dash lead workshops on various topics, including camera settings, composition, and post-processing, ensuring that everyone can learn and grow at their own pace. These sessions are complemented by the hands-on experience of photographing the dynamic and picturesque settings that Budapest offers.

Members of the Photography Club not only develop their technical skills but also build a supportive community where they can share ideas, receive constructive feedback, and collaborate on creative projects. Over time, the club has become a close-knit group, with members forming lasting friendships centered around a shared passion for photography.
